The State Fair
Okay, so it is that time again! Time for funnel cakes, chicken on a stick, carmel apples, crappy rides, animal shows, and musical acts!
I am only slightly excited about the food...if for no other reason, I will go to the fair to get a funnel cake and chicken on a stick for me and a carmel apple for Andrew.
However - this year at the Mississippi State Fair, the musical acts are quite impressive or exciting or were impressive at one point but still cool in my weird mind...here is some of the line up...
Wednesday - Easton Corbin (the young George Strait)
Thursday - Hermin's Hermits with Peter Noone (I'm Into Something Good, There's a Kind of Hush, Mrs. Brown, You've Got a Lovely Daughter)...Fox 97 Baby!!
Friday - Ronnie Milsap (Smokey Mountain Rain, I Wouldn't Have Missed it for the World)
Monday - Bellamy Brothers (Redneck Girl, If I Said You Have a Beautiful Body...)
Tuesday - Eric Church (Texas-style music)
Wednesday - 38 Special (a classic/southern rock band)
Thursday - BOYZ II MEN (yep, you heard me...the first boy band of my middle school years)
Yep sounds like my kinda of music all week long - who is going to join me???

It Finally Happened...
So yesterday morning, Tucker pulled everything off our patio table except my pot of rosemary and shredded it then "placed it" through out the yard. I thought - hummm...he sure is in a crazy mood today - he is looking for trouble. But I brought him in at lunch and left him in his baby gate pen/cage/whatever. Andrew beat me home yesterday afternoon, the house was fine when he arrived, so he sent Tucker outside for a quick potty break before re-penning him so we could go to the golf course.
On the way home from the course, we discussed how it is a good thing that I make sure my boots stay in the closest and the door stays shut because Tucker and I would both be in big trouble if those got damaged. We also discussed how what would an extra ten minutes of destruction wouldn't really be that if he had in fact gotten out - but he can't get out - so no big deal. Then when we finally pulled into the driveway and remembered that we left without turning on any lights inside or outside - we said - oh the poor little guy is inside in the dark alone. As we opened the truck doors, we heard him fussing and crying for us. So we rush to the door to open it and let him out and to eat our Chick-fil-a dinner that we had just grabbed on the way home.
Andrew unlocks the door and turns the knob and he his greeted by Tucker - who shouldn't be at the back door, outside of his pen. Andrew sees the guilty but thrilled smile on his face and says, "What have you done?" Tucker then tucks his tail, we knew we were in trouble and this was before lights were on inside... After the lights were on - he knew he would not be coming inside again in the near future. Our kitchen was littered with paper towels - 7 rolls were scattered around the house - some unrolled, some torn, but all scattered, the contents of my purse, the contents of my lunch bag - including a container of applesauce - which had been emptied and cleaned and no applesauce to be found, a chocolate pudding pack (full...not opened). He had played tug-of-war with the bedsheets, pulled my dress clothes and andrew's white coat off the bed, and left a couple of paper towels in the bedroom. Then he moved on to the guest bedrooms and first picked up one of andrew's hats that were on the bed, then went to the next bedroom and picked up a shipping box with a Christmas gift and took it to the living room and chewed on it for a while.
So he obviously got sent outside for the rest of the evening and was forced to sleep outside as well. I did however let him have his big bed outside, which he decided he would rather sleep in the middle of the yard than under the covered area of the patio. He moved the huge bed out into the yard and slept on it. He most likely won't be allowed back inside without us there for a while.
Now we don't think that he jumped over the gates - he doesn't have that much leap. He isn't tall enough yet to step over either and had he pushed it over it would have still been on its side. It was however resting on his bed slightly so we think he lifted it up and got under it. Still not sure though.
We do accept fault for having not closed all the doors to the bedrooms, which I had been doing until about a week or so ago - but at least the only thing we had to throw away was about 4 rolls of paper towels and the empty applesauce container. Nothing of value was damaged (or at least that we have noticed) and he seems to be eating fine so we don't think anything is lodged...guess it is a good thing he is having surgery tomorrow anyway - the vet will double check everything.
I truly wish I had pictures of the house - but we were both a little too worried about what we were going to find in the next room to worry with a camera.

Papa Ouzts' Birthday Party
I mentioned in a previous post that we made a trip to Georgia for Papa Ouzts' birthday party. Although his birthday was in July - we finally managed to get the whole family together for a party.Monday, September 20, 2010
Silly Boy...
Tucker's new trick - and it doesn't work - he was allowed to stay there so I could take the picture then his big butt was quickly removed from the furniture - Size update: He is now as long from nose to butt as my leg/foot...so we are over 30 inches from head to start of tail. In terms of height, he is at about 25 inches to his shoulders.

And We're Back
We have returned home from a whirlwind trip to Georgia that included visits with both sides of the family!
Wednesday at noon we hit I-20, eastbound and down, loaded up and truckin'...sorry I can't help myself when it comes to Smoky and the Bandit. We arrived (with Tucker and all his toots) at Great Waters (Lake Oconee, Eatonton, GA) at 7:30pm. Our greeting committee was composed of Mom, then MB, then John, then Dad, Hugh and Tico. John saw me first and started saying Gray-Gray (more like Day-Day), then saw Tucker and started yelling...Tucktie, Tucktie. It was too cute. We spent lots of wonderful time with the family in a great house with a view of both of the course and the lake. Time was spent walking Tucker, chasing John, taking John to the pool, correcting him when he called golf carts lawn mowers, and skiing.
Friday mid-morning, we packed up and headed to Macon. I made a surprise (to some) visit to the old office for Laura Mathis' important, but yearless birthday, while Andrew played golf with his dad. We then rejoined at his parents house for dinner and relaxing and drinking beer on the patio with Steven and the parents. Then Saturday we prepared to Papa Ouzts' 80th Birthday Party. Brandy came into town and watched Tech stink it up with her brothers. Donnie and Erin and the girls also made it down for the party. A good time was had by all in attendance and Papa Ouzts was shocked he had so many friends. Then Sunday morning about 8am EST Andrew and I loaded up a sleepy Tucker-man and hit the road to Jackson. Tucker slept from 285 South of Atlanta to west of Meridian. Therefore, we did not stop the entire trip - he is like a sleeping baby, you don't wake the monster. So we got home at 1pm CST - that's six hours, it can be done. After getting his lazy butt out of the car and unloading our cooler of left over BBQ, we had lunch, Tucker had lunch and was told to stay outside, I clean the house, then we took a nap until 4pm CST. We unloaded the car, got some dinner, got Tucker a new bone, and called it a night.
What a weekend, but it was wonderful! Thanks to all the family for organizing and planning so we could spend Andrew's time-off with all of you.

Tucker Update
We went to the vet on Saturday...it wasn't nearly as eventful as going to the vet with Hamilton was, but Tucker still made it will know that he had arrived.
For those of you that didn't know Hamilton - he was the Great Dane that my parents bought for MB and I when we were in HS. He stood 6ft on his back legs and typically maintained a solid 200 pounds. Hamilton is the reason that the vet installed a "swinging" door at their office...he would get so excited to go into the building that he would take off into the door as soon as you opened it whether there was room for you or not. Then once inside, he would place his front paws on the counter, stand on his back legs and basically sign himself in. The vet techs loved him and he loved them.
Now back to Tucker - he didn't jump on the counter but he do go loving on all the vet techs. The vet said he looks great and is gaining weight as he should. On Saturday, he tipped the scales at 59.5 pounds at 5 months and a day. He is exchanging baby teeth for real teeth as he should and does have a problem with getting sunburned on his belly - kinda like his daddy - oh sorry, Andrew, did I say that??. The vet suggested keeping him inside during the heat of the day - yes he is a happy kid now. But the biggest news - his male parts are in and functioning as he demonstrated with his bed - the vet said whenever we are ready, he is ready for some cutting...so Tucker will become a she-man some time in the next couple of weeks. Sorry - boys but I can't handle a humping dog...

In other news
Not sure if you knew this or not, but the best time to the year is here!! College football starts tonight and our Yellow Jackets take the field on Saturday! Although we don't think we will make it to a game this year, we will be cheering on the boys from Mississippi. I might even have to fly my car flags, better yet - I should get a Tech house flag!
Oh and Friday is wear your college colors day - so all you Tech fans, pull out your "Old Gold" pants or shirts or dresses or skirts, and wear them loud and proud! Not really sure which of my Tech gear I will wear tomorrow, but I can assure you I will be wearing something "Old Gold and White" with may be some navy tossed in.
"Oh, well, it's up with the White and Gold, Down with the Red and Black, Georgia Tech is out for the victory. We'll drop our battle-axe on Georgia's head, When we meet her out team is sure to beat her. Down on the farm there will be no sound, 'Till our bow-wows rip through the air; When the battle is over Georgia's team will be found, With the Yellow Jackets swarming 'round!"
"I'm a ramblin' wreck from Georgia Tech and a helluva engineer.
A helluva, helluva, helluva, helluva, helluva engineer.
Like all the jolly good fellows, I drink my whiskey clear.
I'm a ramblin' wreck from Georgia Tech and a helluva engineer.
Oh, I wish I had a daughter sir I'd dress her in white and gold.
I'd put her on the campus to cheer the brave and bold.
And if I had a son sir, I'd tell you what he'd do.
He would yell "To HELL with Georgia!" like his daddy used to do.
Oh if I had a barrel of rum and sugar three thousand pounds,
A college bell to put it in and clapper to stir it around,
I'd drink to all the good fellows who come from far and near,
'Cause I'm a ramblin', gamblin', helluva engineer."

Still Alive
Yes, we are still alive. Tucker hasn't driven us completely crazy yet.
He and I go for a walk every morning and he is doing really well on the lead and is beginning to understand heeling (huge step for us). He is also sitting on command most of the time and responds to down when he knows a treat is involved. He does a great job of showing me things in the yard that could get him trouble, like the styrofoam faucet cover, the water hose and mini-sprinkler, the black landscaping cord used on the tree stakes, and for the first time my back door mat.
He is staying outside during the morning, then at lunch I bring him inside to his indoor pen. Usually when we get home, he goes back outside, unless it is above 90 degrees, then he goes out for a quick break and comes back in. He is sleeping inside on his bed inside his pen and aside for crying when he spilt his water at 2am this morning, he is sleeping well during the night.
Andrew and Tucker are best buds and have been spending time together working on all of his commands. I have also caught them sharing Tucker's bed...don't let Andrew fool you, he really loves this dog. I am taking him to the vet on Saturday so a full weight report will be in then. But in terms of height, we introduced ourselves to some labs during our walk on Monday and he is as tall as the full-grown labs already.
Here is what I mean about Andrew and Tucker being buddies - please note - the dog isn't allowed on the furniture, but he was trying to give Andrew some kisses. And no, Andrew isn't asleep in this picture even though it looks like it.
So after giving a few kisses and trying to attack the remote, Andrew had to help him back down to the floor.
