"Makin' Like a Doctor..."

Okay so it's official...Andrew and I are makin' like he is a doctor and I am a doctor's wife. Since we aren't really the "Doctor and Doctor's Wife" type with the fancy car and house, and bling-bling jewels...we joke and say we are "Makin' like the Doctor('s Wife)" when we do something that is a little more on that side of life.

Anyway - all of this to say that we have finally joined the Randy Watkins Golf Group!! We are excited because we are now members of three different courses and with that comes all the pools, clubhouses, etc. But of course the best part is we can play at 3 very different courses...there is the one that is open and fun about 15 minutes from us in Pearl, the one with all the water in Madison, and the short executive course also in Madison! So when you come to visit, bring your golf clubs and/or swim suit because we have access to a pool now (John-boy, tell your mom I said you could bring your swim stuff too)!!

Salt and Pepper with Sweet Tea

So the question of the day in good ole Mississippi is: "Would you like any salt or pepper with your sweet tea?" Yep, the poor lady at the drive-thru at Cane's asked this wonderful question today. And yes all I ordered was a sweet tea...

Noodle on that for a while.

Smitten with Mississippi - (Georgia's) my true love, but I've got a serious crush on the Magnolia State

Okay so for all you Southern Living readers out there, flip to the last page in the February issue and read the "Southern Journal" article for this month. I could not have said it better.

If you aren't a Southern Living reader or aren't so lucky as to have one sitting on your coffee table just yet, pick it up when you are in the check out line at Kroger, Ingles, etc...read the last page of the February edition - you too will understand.

For the remaining folks that refuse to pick up a copy of Southern Living, I will try to do the article justice.

The author is from Alabama but has fallen in love with Mississippi. She says "It's the only place I've ever visited that didn't eventually make me homesick. ... Both are Southern to the core, but every now and then, Mississippi takes it to a whole new level. Most locals would just as soon throw a fine party - or own a fine bird dog - as drive a fine car. They fish with pride and fry without shame. ... I am especially intrigued by the many contradictions that give the state its quirky charm. ... I have seen beauties with immaculate makeup and glamorous updos sit down to a platter of catfish big enough to feed a truckload of deer hunters. And I'd be willing to bet those delicate flowers know how to handle a shotgun. ... When, Mississippians chose, as their state flower, a symbol of hospitality, they weren't kidding around. ..."

Andrew and I both agree - this article says it all. So if you are lucky enough to live here or have the chance to live here in the future, we would say come on out - Mississippi...It's Like Coming Home.

More Pictures - Christmas and Steven's Graduation

More pictures. I have combined all the albums from Christmas and included pictures from Christmas with the Ouzts/Beall family. Here is the link.

Also, here are pictures from Steven's graduation. Andrew and I couldn't be there because of Andrew getting a stomach bug, but thanks to Gary, his quick thinking, and video on his phone, we got to see Steven walk!

Who Needs Water??

I am not going to go into the details of why this has happened other than the cold weather, but the City of Jackson has had to stop distribution of water because it has had over 100 water main breaks. They still have about 30 left to repair and until all are repaired and the system has been flushed, no one in the City will have water.

So what does that really mean? Well, the City is shut down expect my office and UMC. Basically, UMC has their own water system - very smart for a hospital, and our office decided to require "essential" employees to report...well our entire planning staff deemed themselves "essential." If you aren't an essential employee then why do you have a job?? Anyway, all is well at our home - we have plenty of water. Really at work we are doing okay as well. Today all employees were called back in because we have an RV and porta-potties in the parking lot.

The moral of this story is not to complain about your water rates or taxes that have been increased to pay for water system repairs/improvements...this is what happens when the system is forgotten for 100 years!

Brrr...It's Cold Out There...

Would someone please remind Mother Nature that we live in the South and although we like a little taste of winter we don't care for single digit temperatures and multiple days of white stuff. We got snow in December, it snowed/sleeted most of the day Monday, and now it is supposed to happen again tonight.

No this is not normal for Jackson...the folks around here are just as crazy as folks in Georgia when it comes to cold weather.

Christmas Pictures

I am no good with taking pictures but MB and Dad take care of it for me. Here are links to MB's and Dad's pictures. They include some of everything from the long weekend - including some of Granddaddy's 80th Birthday party.

Andrew and I were thrilled to be with our families for Christmas this year and be able to celebrate Granddaddy's birthday with him. We aren't too sure that we will be able to go to Georgia next year so it was really nice to spend this year with everyone.
