So yesterday morning, Tucker pulled everything off our patio table except my pot of rosemary and shredded it then "placed it" through out the yard. I thought - hummm...he sure is in a crazy mood today - he is looking for trouble. But I brought him in at lunch and left him in his baby gate pen/cage/whatever. Andrew beat me home yesterday afternoon, the house was fine when he arrived, so he sent Tucker outside for a quick potty break before re-penning him so we could go to the golf course.
On the way home from the course, we discussed how it is a good thing that I make sure my boots stay in the closest and the door stays shut because Tucker and I would both be in big trouble if those got damaged. We also discussed how what would an extra ten minutes of destruction wouldn't really be that if he had in fact gotten out - but he can't get out - so no big deal. Then when we finally pulled into the driveway and remembered that we left without turning on any lights inside or outside - we said - oh the poor little guy is inside in the dark alone. As we opened the truck doors, we heard him fussing and crying for us. So we rush to the door to open it and let him out and to eat our Chick-fil-a dinner that we had just grabbed on the way home.
Andrew unlocks the door and turns the knob and he his greeted by Tucker - who shouldn't be at the back door, outside of his pen. Andrew sees the guilty but thrilled smile on his face and says, "What have you done?" Tucker then tucks his tail, we knew we were in trouble and this was before lights were on inside... After the lights were on - he knew he would not be coming inside again in the near future. Our kitchen was littered with paper towels - 7 rolls were scattered around the house - some unrolled, some torn, but all scattered, the contents of my purse, the contents of my lunch bag - including a container of applesauce - which had been emptied and cleaned and no applesauce to be found, a chocolate pudding pack (full...not opened). He had played tug-of-war with the bedsheets, pulled my dress clothes and andrew's white coat off the bed, and left a couple of paper towels in the bedroom. Then he moved on to the guest bedrooms and first picked up one of andrew's hats that were on the bed, then went to the next bedroom and picked up a shipping box with a Christmas gift and took it to the living room and chewed on it for a while.
So he obviously got sent outside for the rest of the evening and was forced to sleep outside as well. I did however let him have his big bed outside, which he decided he would rather sleep in the middle of the yard than under the covered area of the patio. He moved the huge bed out into the yard and slept on it. He most likely won't be allowed back inside without us there for a while.
Now we don't think that he jumped over the gates - he doesn't have that much leap. He isn't tall enough yet to step over either and had he pushed it over it would have still been on its side. It was however resting on his bed slightly so we think he lifted it up and got under it. Still not sure though.
We do accept fault for having not closed all the doors to the bedrooms, which I had been doing until about a week or so ago - but at least the only thing we had to throw away was about 4 rolls of paper towels and the empty applesauce container. Nothing of value was damaged (or at least that we have noticed) and he seems to be eating fine so we don't think anything is lodged...guess it is a good thing he is having surgery tomorrow anyway - the vet will double check everything.
I truly wish I had pictures of the house - but we were both a little too worried about what we were going to find in the next room to worry with a camera.
